We look to the past to shape our future. Who are you? Where are you going from here?

I am a Black woman, a mother and equal parts artist and educator from Washington, DC.

What most excites you about being a part of TAM’s It’s Greek (and Roman) To ME! Season?

It is exciting to be a part of this company of artists, with women at the helm of each of these plays.

We’re all about making old things new and new things classic. Why are you drawn to Classic Theatre? How do you shake it up? 

I am drawn to classic theatre through the language of a compelling story.

From what sources do you draw your inspiration?

I draw inspiration from history and a need to tell stories.

You can have dinner with any three influential people. Who are your dream guests, why them, and what is the topic of conversation?

Anna Deveare Smith, Adrienne Kennedy and Gayl Jones. Black women writing important work sharing what inspires them.

How have the past two years changed your view of making theater and what action are you most proud of?

The past two years have shown me that there is no right time to tell the stories that are important to you.

What’s your super power?

My superpower is empathy.
