TAM has provided literature-based education programs in schools and community centers since the Theater’s founding. Education Tours make adaptations of classic literature accessible to a geographically and economically diverse audience. Since 2005, TAM has taken the Bard on the road through Shakespeare in Maine Communities’ tours in 60 to 90-minute versions of Shakespeare with five to eight actors. Plays are fully designed, rehearsed, and tour to schools and community centers. The target grade levels are middle and high schools. This year’s tour is made possible in part by a Shakespeare in American Communities grant from the National Endowment of the Arts.

Shakespeare’s rollicking tale of wild infatuation and mistaken identities—Twelfth Night is set at Illyria University where Orsino pines for the love Olivia. At sister school, Illyria College for Women, Olivia mourns her late brother and rejects all suitors under the watchful eye of her stern headmaster, Malvolio.
