What’s your deal? Who are you and what’s your story?
Hello! I’m Mark Cooper. I grew up in the Chicago suburbs, moved to Philadelphia for school, and now am based out of New York City. My go-to fun fact is that I’m a triplet….although I’m the only one who’s in the arts! Since moving to NYC, I’ve been acting in theatre and TV/film from coast to coast, and absolutely love it! It’s particularly nice to get out of the city during the summer months, when no one wants to step anywhere near the MTA.
What most excites you about in taking on this acting opportunity at TAM?
How could I not love the silliness and comedy of Pirates of Penzance, while getting to sing the incredible score, with a fantastic group of people?!
Why Classic Theatre?
Classic theatre allows us to take material from another “time” and look at it through the lens we have today. We are able to see how universal some elements and experiences are, and how thoughts and feelings develop through history. Examining the past allows us to learn from it, in order to work towards a better future.
Who is your role model, and why?
I don’t have a singular role model. However, I am incredibly thankful for every person in my life who supported me, challenged me, and pushed me to become the best “me” possible. I’m certainly not finished growing and learning, and am grateful for the influence of so many people in my life.
You can have dinner with any three powerful women in history. Who would you choose and why?
Marie Curie, Rosa Parks, and Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg (who I had the honor of briefly meeting this summer). I would just be fascinated to listen in on that conversation about the role of women and minorities in today’s society and how to continue pushing towards proper equality.
What is your super power?
Being indefatigable – I always want to be doing more, and never get tired of working. Also, isn’t that just such a GREAT word?!
Describe yourself in three alliterative words.
Energetic, Exuberant, Entertaining (well, hopefully after you come see Pirates!)
