Our 43rd summer season continues with special event The Harold: Improv with a Twist, one night only on Thursday, August 16 at 7:30 p.m.

Recommended for mature audiences, The Harold features the comedic talents of The Focus Group, Maine’s premier long-form improvisational group, comprised of actors, teachers, writers, and other comedy professionals. The evening features the comedic stylings of TAM audience favorite, Dennis A. Price.

Like perennial favorites Whose Line is it Anyway, Saturday Night Live, and MADD TV, The Harold crafts detailed scene work, screwball characters, and outlandish relationships into intricate improvisational shows from a single audience suggestion.

“Harold” is the name of the long-form improvisational structure created by Del Close at Second City in Chicago in 1967. Since then it has been performed by improvisational theatre companies across the world. While the form does follow a certain structure, in the words of Close, “The first rule is: there are no rules.”

The Focus Group was birthed in January 2009 by a group of like-minded friends. Since then they have performed in a number of venues, including last fall’s Comedy Riot, Downtown Bangor’s New Year Countdown at the Opera House, the Portland Improv Festival, Verve in Orono, and their home stage at Next Generation Theatre in Brewer.

Ticket prices range from $20-$26. Rush tickets are $10, available ten minutes before curtain, based upon availability. For reservations, please contact the TAM Box Office at 207.933.9999 or visit www.theateratmonmouth.org.
