1969 was the most tumultuous year yet for the Beatles.  The tapes of the oft-contentious Get Back sessions recorded in January lay unreleased in the vault.  Business and interpersonal disagreements spiraled out of control.  Yet somehow, the group and producer George Martin came together one last time in July and August to create their final masterpiece.  From George Harrison’s brilliant composition Something to the sweeping medley on side two, Abbey Road proved to be a Beatles album like none before.  Mark S. Cartier breaks down how the Beatles were able to set aside their differences in the studio and point the way for others to follow in the 1970’s.
